Empowering Girls Through Education, Dignity, and Support

In commemoration of World Menstrual Hygiene Day 2026, Milestone Foundation, in partnership with RGE Foundation, hosted an impactful awareness and empowerment event under the theme “Breaking Silence, Building Confidence.”

The event brought together 34 participants, including 31 girls and 3 boys, creating a safe and supportive space for open discussions about menstrual health, self-confidence, and the importance of ending period-related stigma.

The program commenced with an opening prayer, followed by welcoming remarks from the Event Coordinator, Mr. Ekuh Bismark, who reminded participants that:

“This event is not just a programme, it is a movement. A movement to challenge stigma, champion dignity, and stand in solidarity with every girl and woman who has ever felt shame around her period.”

Miss Catherine, Country President of Milestone Foundation, also welcomed participants and encouraged everyone to actively engage in the discussions and learning sessions.

Educational Sessions That Inspired Change

The event featured three insightful presentations designed to educate and empower participants.

Understanding Menstrual Stigma and Building Confidence

Madam Emmanuella led the first session, exploring the roots of menstrual stigma and emphasizing the importance of replacing shame and silence with education, open dialogue, support, and respect. Participants learned how communities can work together to create environments where girls can manage menstruation with confidence and dignity.

Menstrual Hygiene and Self-Care

Madam Blessing Mbwaye delivered a practical session on menstrual hygiene and self-care. She highlighted the importance of proper hygiene practices, access to clean menstrual products, healthy lifestyle habits, and reliable information in promoting both physical and emotional well-being.

Sisterhood and Support

The final presentation, delivered by Miss Catherine, focused on the power of community support in addressing period poverty and menstrual shame. She encouraged participants to foster a culture of empathy, solidarity, and mutual support so that every girl can thrive regardless of her circumstances.

Meaningful Conversations and Shared Experiences

One of the most impactful moments of the event was the interactive discussion session. Participants openly shared their first menstruation experiences, challenges they had faced, and lessons they had learned.

The discussion created a powerful atmosphere of understanding and encouragement, reminding everyone that menstrual health should never be a source of shame.

The three male participants also took part in the discussions and received guidance on how they can provide emotional and practical support to girls and women during their menstrual cycles, helping to build more inclusive and supportive communities.

Commitment to Inclusion

Milestone Foundation remains committed to ensuring that no one is left behind. One of the participants at the event was visually impaired, and special measures were taken to ensure her full participation and comfort throughout the program.

This commitment reflects the Foundation’s belief that every individual deserves equal access to education, support, and opportunities for empowerment.

As part of the initiative, the Foundation distributed sanitary pads to participants to help address period poverty and promote menstrual dignity.

A Successful Day of Learning and Empowerment

The event concluded with a closing prayer and a sense of renewed hope and confidence among participants. The atmosphere was filled with solidarity, learning, and inspiration, demonstrating the power of community-driven action in improving menstrual health awareness and supporting girls’ well-being.

At Milestone Foundation, we believe that every girl deserves access to accurate information, menstrual products, and a supportive community. Through initiatives like this, we continue working toward a future where menstruation is understood, respected, and never a barrier to education, confidence, or opportunity.

Together, we are breaking silence and building confidence.
