On Tuesday, November 18, 2025, the Milestone Foundation team visited Government Nursery School Bokwai in Buea, South West Region of Cameroon to commemorate World Toilet Day. The team was warmly welcomed by the school administration, staff, and pupils, setting a positive tone for the day’s activities. The purpose of the visit was to encourage the children to adopt proper hygiene practices and to raise awareness about the importance of sanitation.

Mr. Franck Tchuenguia, the Community Outreach Coordinator of Milestone Foundation facilitated the session by posing a simple but important question: “What do we do each time we leave the restroom?” Several pupils responded quickly, showing their eagerness to participate. To make the session more engaging, the facilitator introduced a playful song that captured the children’s attention and created a lively atmosphere. Many pupils were visibly excited and enthusiastic about the activity.

The team then demonstrated the correct way to wash hands with clean water and soap, following UN directives on handwashing as a means of eradicating germs. Pupils were invited to practice the steps themselves, and after their attempts, Mr. Franck provided a clear demonstration before calling additional students to repeat the process. This hands-on approach ensured that the children understood the importance of proper hygiene and could apply it in their daily lives.

The session concluded with words of appreciation from the Head Teacher, Mrs Mbua Judith, who, along with staff and pupils, expressed gratitude to the Milestone Foundation for their efforts. The Foundation also made donations of essential hygiene materials, including liquid soap, detergents, cups, toilet brushes, and other supplies.

In her interview, the Head Teacher shared her contentment with the Foundation’s kind gesture and acknowledged the positive impact of their contributions on the school and the wider community. She also highlighted the challenges the school continues to face, particularly in terms of infrastructure, while emphasizing the valuable role initiatives like this play in improving the lives of the pupils and fostering better hygiene practices.
